1. Show that the singlet and triplet states for two spin-1/2 particles are eigenstates of the \(\hat{S}^2\) and \(\hat{S}_z\) operators, where \(\mathbf{S}=\mathbf{S}_1+\mathbf{S}_2\) is the total spin, and determine the eigenvalues.
